Support for Nursing Continuing Education
One of the ways in which CNF meets its purpose and
goals is to provide funding for a variety of nursing education activities.
Examples of funding for educational activities include support of
the CE Day on the Nursing Shortage at the CNA Convention in 2002;
Support of the CE Day on Strength Through Diversity at the CNA Convention
in 2003; and support of the 2003 International Conference on Caring.
Requests for funding may be made by nursing and health related individuals
and organizations.

Activity Funding Guidelines and Application
Individuals and organizations may apply to CNF for grants for educational
and scientific activities and community based projects. Examples
of projects which have received grant funding from CNF include research
on smoking cessation, development of educational materials about
the role of Advanced Practice Nurses, and support for purchase of
educational materials for at-risk teens at a crisis center. CNF also
considers requests to utilize our 501( c )(3) status to apply for
grants from other funding sources. The Nursing Heritage Project in
Colorado Springs is a recent beneficiary of this program.

The Colorado Nurses Foundation (CNF) is proud to announce that thirty two scholarships will be awarded in January 2008. Nursing students from both rural and urban settings are encouraged to apply. CNF supports a culturally diverse nursing profession. Scholarships and amounts are as follows:

Nightingale Scholarships (*Please see page 2 for specific eligibility/criteria):
- Amy and Horace Hagedorn Trust: Nightingale Scholarship* – $1,000
- Banner Health System – McKee Medical Center, Loveland: Nightingale Scholarship – $1,000
- Banner Health System - North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley: Nightingale Scholarship– $1,000
- Marcy and Bruce Benson: Nightingale Scholarship* – $1,000
- Colorado Nurses Association: Nightingale Scholarship* – $1,000
- Red and Lola Fehr: Nightingale Scholarship – $1,000
- Johnson and Johnson: Nightingale Scholarship- $1,000
- Kaiser Permanente: Nightingale Scholarship* – $1,000
- Metropolitan State College of Denver, President’s Office: Nightingale Scholarship* – $1,000
- Poudre Valley Health System, Fort Collins: Nightingale Scholarship* – $1,000
- Rose Medical Center, Denver: Nightingale Scholarship- $1,000
- St. Anthony’s Hospitals, Denver: Nightingale Scholarships – two at $1,000 each
- St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center, Grand Junction: Nightingale Scholarship* – $1,000
- The Seedworks Fund: Nightingale Scholarship* – $1,000
- Nightingale Scholarships – ten (10) at $1,000 each

The American Association of Critical Care Nurses Scholarship - $1000
The specific criteria for this cholarship is a grade point average of 3.5 for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Roy Anderson Memorial Scholarship* - $2,000
Arthur L. Davis Publishing Agency Scholarship – $1,000
Colorado Nurses Association: Virginia Paulson Memorial Scholarship* – $2,000
Colorado Organization of Nursing Leaders - $1,000
H.M. Muffly Memorial Scholarship* - $1,000
Rocky Mountain Region of Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society* - $1,500
Patty Walter Memorial Scholarship* - $1,000
Undergraduate applicants must have a 3.25 grade point average minimum and graduate student applicants must have a 3.5 gpa minimum, with one of the following student statuses:
- Junior or Senior level BSN undergraduate student, OR
- RN enrolled in a baccalaureate or higher degree nursing program in a school of nursing, OR
- Student in second year of nursing studies in an associate degree in nursing program, OR
- RN with master’s degree in nursing, currently practicing in Colorado and enrolled in a doctoral program, OR
- Student in second or third year of a Doctorate Nursing Practice (DNP) program.
Applicants also must be:
- A Colorado resident committed to practicing nursing in Colorado, and
- Accepted as a student in an approved Colorado Nursing Program.
Scholarship Criteria for Awards
Your scholarship application will be rated on the following:
- Professional philosophy and goals,
- Dedication to the improvement of patient care in Colorado,
- Demonstrated commitment to nursing, critical thinking skills, and potential for leadership,
- Involvement in community and professional organizations,
- Grade point average (minimum 3.25 undergraduate, 3.5 graduate),
- Financial need,
- Recommendation of one faculty member, and
- Employer/Supervisor recommendation (if not employed, then from another individual).
